Hi! We are Kata and Mario, and we are glad you found SmartMigrate. This is our story.
Who are Mario and Kata?
Mario and Kata are a Hungarian-Mexican couple living in Budapest.
Mario came to Hungary in 2017 on a Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship: a name many of you will recognise straight away, since it's one of the main programmes bringing international talent to Hungary. He has spent a lot of good days here: learning, working, making friends and, of course, still trying (to this day) to master the Hungarian language. But life in a new country isn't only the good days. There have been hard ones too, for a Mexican in Budapest: going to the Kormányablak, to the NAV or, worse, hunting for the right document on Ügyfélkapu.
Kata was born and raised in Budapest. She's an adult education expert who has worked with people living with disabilities for over a decade. She loves to experience new cultures and meet people with different personalities. She has seen first-hand the positive changes an international community has brought to the city.
One lucky day, Kata and Mario met, started spending time together, and the rest is history. In time it was Mario's turn, along with many of his international friends, to apply for a permanent residence permit. He went looking for one place where all the information about the process was gathered and easy to follow, and found that no such place existed.
So we built it: SmartMigrate, a platform to help everyone through their residency in Hungary!
Last but not least, there is another important member of the team: Moira. She is our cat, and she is involved in everything we do (sometimes rather too much), mainly supervising and sitting on our keyboards. On the platform she has a more useful job: she is the mascot, and you will meet her in the logo and throughout the design where she plays the helpful assistant.
